A little cheese and a little whine

Film Log: The Orphanage

Details here

Consistently atmospheric if a little slow to start, this very European horror is also a moving tragedy about love and loss, and builds its way through some truly chilling moments to a heart-rending conclusion. The twists of the plot were more than enough to keep me guessing and all the characters are watchable and engaging. This is no slasher flick and will not have you on the edge of your seat (except perhaps towards the end) but really shows how powerful a ghost story can be.

Fans of Steven Moffat may find a few images oddly familiar.
