A little cheese and a little whine

Keep taking the tablets, BBC News 24

BBC News is reporting this story on its website. In short, aspirin, which is generally reckoned to be useful as a preventative for people with high blood pressure, in fact has no benefit in diabetics with no symptoms of heart disease. Interesting stuff and one which no doubt has relevance for prescribing practices.

BBC News on TV, on the other hand is running the story with the headline “Why taking an aspirin to prevent heart disease might be a waste of time,” presenting the study as if it refuted the preventative effect entirely, so GPs can no doubt look forward to several weeks of explaining to patients that no, they haven’t mis-prescribed the aspirin and yes, they should keep on taking them.

Nice one, auntie beeb.
